Abstract
Oxygen is an essential component required for normal brain function. To explore the effect of oxygen on brain activity, we evaluated the change in cognitive function and electroencephalographic patterns with and without added oxygen. Twenty healthy subjects were enrolled for added oxygen, and twenty matched control subjects were selected. The K-Auditory Verbal Learning Test and Learning Ability Diagnostic Examination including performance cognitive tasks was performed to assess cognitive function in subjects and controls. For the 35% oxygen added group, verbal memory was significantly improved. In addition, EEG testing showed that beta and gamma activity were decreased while delta activity increased in the oxygen added group. These results suggest that oxygen supply may influence cognitive function and brain activity.
